The work being carried out by West Somerset Restoration at WIlliton includes the completion of a new tender - a BR rebodied 5,250 gallon light pacific type, similar to the tender no 3265 attached to Braunton when it was rebuilt at Eastleigh in 1958. The new tender will be equipped with roller bearing axleboxes. The locomotive is also being fitted with AWS, TPWS and OTMR, in addition to air pump and other equipment for train air brake operation. The engine and tender will retain steam/vacuum brakes as designed. Work is also in hand on the overhaul and refurbishment of the support coach BR Mk1 BSK no S35451. ---ooo--- A running agreement until December 31st 2016 has been agreed in principle with the West Somerset Railway which provides for use of the locomotive on peak services and special events. With the approval of the owner the locomotive will make its first visit off the WSR to the Mid Hants Railway September Gala, provided satisfactory transit arrangements can be made for movement by rail. Subsequently it will be available for use on other railways when it is fully fitted for main line working and has completed all necessary mainline test running. This will depend on potential host railways being main line connected as the locomotive is not intended to travel by road. Home page |
